The story of Lothian Vineyards begins at the heart of a Scottish family with a deep passion for grape growing. The Wilsons grew up on their grandmother's famous Rust en Vrede Vineyard in the 1950s and 1960s, inheriting the family's winemaking heritage to this day.
However, their ambition led them beyond their Stellenbosch vineyards to the unexplored potential of the Elgin Valley. Driven by a vision to create exceptional wines, the Wilsons began a meticulous search for the ideal location. Years of exploration led them to the heart of the Elgin Valley, a region with a temperate climate ideal for growing premium grapes. The cool climate, which mitigates the summer heat, combined with fertile soils and abundant sunshine, provided the perfect foundation for this vision.
